Will be showing The Unorthodox on March 16 at the Century 16 in Pleasant Hill
The Unorthodox is a documentary film about Yaakov Cohen a determined man from Jerusalem who own’s a Printing Press Company. He is tired from being pushed around. It seems that he was born on the wrong side, with the wrong family name. In a moment’s decision he decides to establish a Sephardic-ultra-Orthodox list that will run to the Jerusalem municipality. He gathers two friends, and together they improvise a campaign. Where there is no means, and no connections. He has no money, but with much rage, passion and a sense of justice.
THE UNORTHODOX…is just plain excellent and it proves an inspired choice at the opening of the Jerusalem Film Festival!

This film is funny and clever and Shuli Rand always knows how to bring out the real Israeli character in his work.
Another movie reviewer mentions… But what might have been a preachy history lesson, in Malka’s assured hands, becomes a lively and suspenseful film.
